Block it Out

Yet another simple palette I'm mad for, and artsist Frederick Hammersley has color blocked it perfectly, giving minimalism and symmetry a chic, retro feel..

Ok, Spring, can you just get here already so I can wear a floor length maxi dress like this without it getting soaking wet, pretty please?? In the mean time I'm remaining optimistic that March will bring us plenty of sunshine and dry, clear days...Happy Wednesday!

Colored Daylight // Gold + Grey + White

You all know how much I love color, but lately some of my favorite personal paintings have been the ones where I use almost no color at all. The metallic gold finish on a crisp white background with just a hint of tonal light throughout feels bright, cool and modern and seems to fit easily into any space at all...

I also believe this to be the perfect wardrobe choice for getting that sexy glow, even in the dead of winter. Or maybe I'm just trying to find a way to make the Seattle grey just a little warmer. Whatever it is, I can't get enough of this simple palette right now in my closet, on my walls and in my home...Enjoy!

An Artful Weekend // Hanne Sie

Happy Friday everyone! Is it just me or are the weeks just flying by?! I can't believe I've been at Free People for almost a month now and the more I delve into my new position the more it seems too good to be true. However, I do think it's important to take a step away on the weekend to find inspiration elsewhere, and today I'm absolutely loving the rich palettes and heavy handed painting of artist Hanne Sie...

I love the way each of these paintings has a distinctly different palette but it feels like they could all live in the same home, or as outfits in the same closet. In fact, I'm putting together an outfit around the first work's palette in my head as we speak..Hope your weekend is chuck full of color and inspiration...Enjoy!!

p.s. don't forget to head over to Design for Mankind today to check out today's edition of Artful Interiors!

My Daylight // Free People Austin, TX

Good Morning! Today I'm spending a few more hours in Austin, Texas before heading back home to Seattle and I can't tell you how sad I am to be leaving this awesome city after just 2 very short days. I stayed at what has been probably been my favorite hotel ever, Hotel San Jose, and got to work with the brilliant Southwest Free People Display artist, Trilby, on this big impact display moment in their local store...

...in my opinion, marking tape and string has never looked so good. And don't you think Trilby did an unbelievable job transforming this old bike into a gorgeous Spring inspiration?! Austin, I barely knew you, but I dare say I hope we meet again, very soon. South by Southwest perhaps?? Enjoy!

Neon Daylight

Happy Monday y'all! I thought I'd throw that in since I finally just shook the y'all I caught after being in Alabama and now I'm heading to Austin, Texas for a few days so I figure I might as well just embrace it! I'm having a serious neon yellow moment and I just can't seem to get enough of it so I thought I'd share some of my favorites ways I'm seeing it skillfully employed right now...

I adore every element of that outfit and if my house wasn't painted yellow I'd be making my door look like this right now. Hope you all y'all have a wonderful Monday...Enjoy!

Photo Diary // Free People Birmingham, AL

Happy Friday! It has been a crazy 3 weeks starting my new job and I haven't quite gotten the hang of keeping up with my posts while traveling back and forth across the country but I promise to get better! In the mean time I wanted to finally share what I've been away doing. So without further adieu...here is the brand new Free People in Birmingham, Alabama...

It was such an amazingly gratifying experience; arriving at the brand new store, an essentially blank but beautiful canvas, and working as a team non-stop for a week as it came to life. I was working with the amazingly talented Southwest display artist on installing the Spring display and filling the 20 foot high space with extra special touches. My favorite was painting the windows which required climbing up into a little shelf above that was blazing hot from the sun every morning...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Citrus Light

The days are beginning to get just the tiniest bit longer and the sunshine is becoming a tad more frequent and I'm taking it as an excuse to look forward to SPRING! I'm longing for sun-soaked afternoons, sparkling lemonade and citrus brights and while we may have a ways to go still, this flowing work by artist Jill Lorraine and this lamp from Jan Showers will get the job done...

Such a happy color, this light in my room would make it feel like the sun was shining no matter how grey the sky outside might be...Enjoy!

Art + Style: Rachel Zoe in Color

Hello and happy Monday! I'm so sorry for my absence this past week, it was a jam packed week of 12 hour work days and very early mornings. But I am back now with some inspiration that caught my eye from the Fall 2012 Ready-to-wear collection of Rachel Zoe, and this time around she used a refreshing amount of  color in gorgeously rich palettes; I just couldn't help but pair some of my favorite looks with a few of my most recent art finds in the same juicy hues...

The stunning works from artists Paul Waters, Hans Jorgen Henriksen, and Eduardo Bessa Rodrigues each took my breath away in completely different ways but they all have color combos as unique as Zoe's runway show. And they all have a lot more where that came from so check them out. Hope your week is starting off with a perspective just as bold and bright...Enjoy!

Art + Style: Oracle Fox for Billabong

Though in completely different mediums and from opposite sides of the world, artist Victoria Haven's geometric works and Oracle Fox's new line for  Billabong seem to have come from the same brilliant brain child. Bold basic tones on washed-out backgrounds, creating a lovely juxtaposition between soft and hard, vintage and modern...

Mandy of Oracle Fox is such a talent, I eagerly click over daily to see what inspired outfitting or artistic styling she's conjured up and this collaboration with the iconic surf brand is one of may favorites...Enjoy!

A Backdrop for Blogshop

Happy Monday from Alabama! I flew in yesterday to help open up a brand new Free People here in Birmingham and train with the Southwest display coordinator. It was quite the trek getting over here from Seattle but the excitement of meeting the team and working on the store is giving me plenty of energy to start the day [even though my body thinks it's 2 hours earlier than my 6 am start time]. I don't know how much I'll be able to blog this week but wanted to give you a little peak at the painted backdrop I contributed to Blogshop Seattle this weekend...

One lucky blogshopper is taking the 6 foot canvas home with them and I can't wait to see where it lands. It was so much fun meeting Bri and Angela and being just a little part of the amazing workshop they've crafted. Keep a look out as you may see it popping up around the web, and stay tuned for the full view and some creative Seattleites who were also a part of the event...Enjoy!

Love it / Live it: Modern Bohemian

Happy Friday!! I wanted to go into the weekend with a couple lovely ways I'm inspired by the new applications of the vintage bohemian aesthetic. Such as taking the age old craft of crochet and decorating a tree with it, making it a living piece of art...

And I love the way this vintage chair is given a fresh look with a bright white finish and metallic seat...Enjoy!!
